EARLY PERIOD is published quarterly for the personal amusement of Fuiltigherne ni Ruadh O'Finn and for the advancement of early period arts, crafts, sciences and research. EARLY PERIOD deals in the pre-1066 A.D. topics of interest to persons with early period personae in the SCA or similar organizations.

Good Folk,

We would like to thank the Shire of Delvengrim and the Barony of Gladenfeld for their subscriptions to help defray the costs of sending issues to the groups in the Kingdom of Meridies. We appreciate your support.

We apologize to all of you who got covers but no issue last time. To keep this from happening in the future, we've purchased a heavy duty stapler. Perhaps this will help to foil the post office.

Be sure to look at the March/April issue of Archeology for their article on Celtic Death Rituals by Barry Cunliffe. Also interesting, if a little heavy on the 'Druid ritual' stuff is the article on bog burials in Smithsonian.

Speaking of Celts, check out McCall's pattern #3353. While it only comes in children's sizes, the "Power Hero" muscle suit pattern reworked to adult size would make a great beginning for a really period set of Celtic armor. Get busy, Andras has already started on his!

Next month: More Birka knotted trim, more sprang techniques, more period embroidery stitches, early war hammers and Part II of the SCA gladiator.

Fuil and Andras
