It is based on an extant 13th century chest at the l'Oeuvre Notre-Dame Museum in Strasbourg, France.</p> I used plywood panels on the sides since the original had solid wide panels, and it is next to impossible to find solid panels that wide today. Since building this, I have decided to build another using solid (though narrower) planks for a stronger chest with more period joinery. The final product will also include the iron straps and hinges. </p> A hole is drilled in the bottom of the chest for a piece of tubing which is fitted onto the drain of our large cooler. There is a valve on the tubing so that we can drain the cooler without removing it from the chest.</p> <hr> <i>Click on thumbnail to enlarge image.</i><br> <center><table border=0><width=900> <tr> <td align="center"><a href="alsace01a.png"> <img src="alsace01a.png" width=200 border=0></a></td> <td align="center"><a href="alsace01b.png"> <img src="http://www.housebarra.com/images/no-photo.png" width=200 border=0></a></td> <td align="center"><a href="alsace01c.png"> <img src="http://www.housebarra.com/images/no-photo.png" width=200 border=0></a></td> </tr></table> </p> <a href="http://www.greydragon.org/furniture/chests/stbg-chest31.jpg">13th century chest from the Alsace region, with strap hinges and forged iron decoration. <br><img src="http://www.greydragon.org/furniture/chests/stbg-chest31.jpg" width=200 border=0></a></p> </center> <a href="http://www.greydragon.org/index.html">Thanks to Master Terefan Greydragon for traveling & taking photos!</a></p> <hr> <a href="http://www.housebarra.com">Home</a></p> <a href="http://www.housebarra.com/projects">Projects</a></p> </center> </body> </html>
